About the Client
Oasis Environments Limited is a fully licensed Bristol based asbestos surveyor and remover. They are also an installer of epoxy resin solutions such as flooring, wall coatings and resin bonded surfacing.
We were approached by the client to redesign two existing company websites and provide SEO to improve levels of business.
Specification
It was essential that the website branding was maintained such as the colour schemes, fonts and general layout as this already matched that of existing company logos, leaflets and letterheads.
The client had two websites that required optimisation. As the websites had originally been designed in-house using Microsoft Frontpage, there were cross-browser compatibility issues and a non-uniform layout that required adjustment.
The additional features the client requested were a new section for case studies so they could illustrate examples of their work and the implementation of a dynamic menu bar that allowed for future expansion. It was very important that the case studies section contained an image gallery so that customers could visualise the type and quality of work carried out.
When the website alterations were finished, we were invited to begin an SEO campaign to improve the website's position on the search engine results pages (SERPs).
Design Elements
It was decided that due to the former design, the best way to proceed was to recreate the website from the start and use the existing website layout as a template. Whilst the previous website appeared correctly in Internet Explorer, cross-browser support was not considered and the website suffered from compatibility issues when viewed in other web browsers such as Firefox and Safari. The HTML code also contained a large quantity of superfluous code that meant a complete overhaul was required.
The new layout allowed us to move to a completely tableless layout by implementing an external CSS file whilst allowing us to completely clear the redundant code and clean up the general design.
The web design consists of the following elements:
- CSS based design
- Web standards compliant
- XHTML 1.0
- CSS 2.1
- PHP
- Javascript
Once the new template was complete, we set about adding the additional features such as the expandable menu bar. Due to the client's focus on search engine optimisation, we decided to opt purely for a CSS based menu instead of Javascript to enable search engines to crawl the menu links easily. The new menu is not only optimised for search engines but also ready for future expansion with minimal effort. We then added the new case studies section and by utilising Javascript, introduced a gallery to display images of current and previous jobs. Upon completion, cross browser support was tested using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Netscape.
After the website was completed, we then discussed our intended search engine optimisation plans, obtained the client's desired key phrases and have been optimising the website on an ongoing monthly basis.
